Apartments [Jun. 4th, 2011|02:44 pm]
Honolulu and Hawaii

[Current Location |Malekahana (Kahuku), HI]
[music |Pedro the Lion - Slow and Steady Wins the Race]

I have to move out of my place in Kahuku by the end of August. I'm planning to attend UH for the fall semester, pending admission. We want to relocate somewhere in the general vicinity of Manoa to a one or two bedroom house or apartment that's OK with us having a cat. Does anyone know of any decent realtors or places to look for apartment/home rentals (besides Craig's List)? There have to be some referral websites out there, right? Any information or ideas would be greatly helpful.

Is the Tourist Guide Career Right For You? [Mar. 22nd, 2011|01:47 pm]
Honolulu and Hawaii

Aloha kakou!
If you know the Islands better then anybody, like to hang out with people and have some spare time, then I have great news for you!
Why don't you try yourself as tourist guide?

If you are professional then it is especially for you!

We  have built a website dedicated to connecting travelers and tour guides. The site is called www.CanYouGuideMe.com. We are looking for guides all over the world, and especially guides from Hawaii to feature the best attractions of the islands. Right now, registration is absolutely free!

When you register as a guide, you receive a personal page, where you can introduce yourself and your tours. Your can build pages for the places you want to show people, providing description & photos and your own thoughts on what is strange or wonderful about each spot.

Here is an example:

Membership will promote your name in three ways:

1) Your page will appear in search engine results, without the cost of a personal website.
2) Your information will be available to tourists through an easy and elegant interface.
3) You can build pages for all of the attractions you are guiding, with detailed descriptions.

This is an excellent way to promote your tours and instruction to a global audience. Your guide page will show up in Google searches, without the time and cost of building a website from scratch. Your information will join a growing resource for guides and tourists, which already features a large set of attractions in the US, the Caribbean, and Europe.
Registration is free and easy as one - two - three - Just try it!

Please contact me if you have any questions!

Many thanks!

wanting to move to Honolulu from Shanghai [Jan. 31st, 2011|11:01 pm]
Honolulu and Hawaii

Greetings, everyone!

I currently live in Shanghai and my friends and I are looking to move to Honolulu (or a surrounding area) next year. But we're a bit concerned about a couple of things.

1.) Finding jobs there (while it's awesome to NOT be teaching English anymore, I'm worried about just going to Honolulu and seeking jobs out of a hostel or something)
2.) Finding apartments there. I know that there's stuff on Craigslist, but I am utterly new to Oahu and while I am aware of TheBus, I'm terrified I'll find a nice place that isn't too expensive (I currently pay $250/month for an apartment, so talk about a massive change) but is nowhere near any route that TheBus goes to.

Where are all the consignment shops?

I'm 27, and the cosignment shops I've been finding all sell things for older women. Or they are all designer items. Does anyone know anywhere I can take my items that aren't all designer?

Thanks in advance!

Lilikoi [Sep. 10th, 2010|04:42 pm]
Honolulu and Hawaii

Two years on O'ahu, and I've yet to see an actual passion fruit. Jams, jellies, glazes, and lilikoi-flavored everything, but where can I buy the fruit? I haven't eaten this in more than twenty years, and my time on the island is almost done. I ransacked chinatown, but that was in April.

ATTN: people with a .edu email address [Jul. 19th, 2010|12:47 am]
Honolulu and Hawaii

Amazon is offering a free 1 year subscription to Amazon Prime (Which usually costs $79 a year. Perks include free 2 day shipping, and $3.99 overnight shipping): http://amzn.to/bSH8jP (url shortened with bit.ly)

This is being marketed towards college students but all you need is a valid .edu email address, so teachers and alumni might be able to benefit from this too (though the Terms of Service does say they have the right to ask for proof that you are a current student).

I apologize if you have already heard about this amazing deal. I just want to help spread the word on this before they stop offering it. I am not an employee of Amazon, nor do I gain anything from people signing up for this service.

Looking for a good salon. [Jul. 18th, 2010|03:18 pm]

Hey, it's me. Again. Already.

Anyway, so I'm looking for a new stylist, and am wondering if any of you ladies know a good one I could try out. I'm on somewhat of a budget (don't really want to spend over $100), but am not looking to go for the whole box-color look again, or go to one of the mammoth hairstyling chains (yanno; Regis, Supercuts, ect.) for a color and trim unless someone knows a reputable stylist who can do a good job in a such a place :/

Much appreciated, as always!

Hey guys! [Jul. 14th, 2010|08:20 pm]
Honolulu and Hawaii

[mood |hopefulhopeful]
[music |OZ]

So my husband and I just moved into our new apartment in Waipahu, and sadly, our sorry little two bedroom place is quite empty. :(

I was wondering if any kind souls could point me in the directions of some neat flea markets or something of that nature to fill the place up. I've been sniffing around for garage sales, but only ever really see them on post...

So, just leave me a comment, or feel free to email or IM me at lastinthebox@yahoo.com

Much appreciated!

I know I'm cheating, since I don't live in Hawaii, but... This is the only community I've found (suprisingly!)...

My family and I are going to be on Kaua'i and O'ahu week after next... are there any restaurants we absolutely have to try? I really wanted to ask some locals. =)

If this is too inappropriate, please let me know and I'll immediately delete my post and leave the community. ^_^'' I hope I don't upset anyone.

Thank you in advance!!

Edit: Thank you so much for your suggestions!! =D
